Siam Volunteer is a non-government volunteering organisation set up with the intention of offering English speaking individuals an opportunity to become a volunteer teacher in Thailand. Recent growth in commerce, trade and tourism means that speaking, reading and writing in English is becoming more important. An increased level of English offers children in Thailand an opportunity to secure good a place at a university and expands their opportunities in the job market.
Siam Volunteer has developed a number of relationships with a network of schools in the North-East Thailand. These schools are from predominately poorer backgrounds, where the ability to afford for a full time native English Speaker is limited. We can offer volunteering opportunities in small towns and rural villages as well as opportunities to teach in primary and high schools. Siam Volunteer has been set up through the hard work of Luke Barletta and Atitaya Philaikul. Luke undertook a volunteering project in the North East of Thailand, during that time he met Atitaya. Atitaya is an English teacher who is dedicated to the development of English amongst Thai students. Together they have decided to establish Siam Volunteer to encourage more volunteers to visit the area and further develop the English language to the school children of Thailand. Volunteering also offers an opportunity to exchange cultures, which is of equal importance. Our aim is to encourage volunteers who speak English to volunteer their time to help with the development of the English language within Thailand. This will help create more confident English speaking students within Thailand.
Siam Volunteer is based in the North-East of Thailand, in the city of Chaiyaphum. Chaiyaphum is situated approximately 5 hours north of Bangkok. The city is well positioned to offer volunteers access to a variety of schools in both towns and villages. Chaiyaphum acts as a hub for a number of smaller towns and villages within the region. On the outskirts of the city there are a number of national parks that are also worth visiting. Chaiyaphum as a city contains all the amenities and facilities that you would expect of a city, including hospitals, supermarkets, cinema, international fast food outlets, as well as access to a range of communication services. Our small team allows for a personal approach that can manage your volunteering experience from start to finish. We have team members in both England and Thailand that can answer any queries that you might have before, after or during your experience. We are here to assist you in any way possible to make your experience unforgettable and rich in culture and diversity.
