Before you embarking on any teaching, you will spend the night at ‘our’ host family. We will try our best to prepare you for your teaching experience.  As well as providing you with a traditional Thai meal we will also go over some basic Thai language that you will find useful during your stay in Thailand.  We will also explain Thai culture and also help you with some ideas for teaching English in the classroom.

Volunteers are expected to teacher their own classes, it is therefore advisable that a lesson plan is thought about in advance to ensure the lesson runs smoothly. A detailed plan is not necessary, you will find that the students’ ability in English varies considerable, therefore it is a good idea that any lesson plan you create allows for flexibility and adaptation at the last minute.

Volunteers will teach between 12-18 hours a week, as well as teaching English you will have the opportunity to get involved in other subjects, sports and activities should you wish. Where appropriate you may want to organise your own after school classes, in English, sport or culture.  There is also potential to offer English classes in the evening to the local village.

The schools will have internet access, so in your spare time you will be able to send emails back home and use the web to help planning further lessons, or stay in contact with other volunteers on the program.
